TriMedx Collects a Ton for Gleaners Food Bank

INDIANAPOLIS (March 31, 2009) - TriMedx, a healthcare equipment management company, recently collected nearly 2,000 pounds of nonperishable goods for Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana, enough to feed a family of four for 18 months.

donated items from the food drive

Donated items include rice, canned vegetables and fruits, peanut butter and baby food. Distributing 1 million pounds per year, Gleaners supports 400 local agencies from food pantries, soup kitchens and emergency shelters to residential and day care centers. Gleaners helps feed hungry Hoosiers in 20 counties in Central Indiana where more than 200,000 people live in poverty.

"We wanted to give back to help those in our local community experiencing tough times," said Amy Knue, TriMedx process and performance specialist who coordinated the food drive. Living out its "service of the poor" core value, TriMedx associates plan various charitable events throughout the year.

To encourage participation and incorporate the spirit of fun into the food drive, Knue organized a scavenger hunt. Employee teams had two hours to find specific food items as well as a few surprises, such as a vintage John Denver vinyl album. Food items in high demand such as baby food received more points.
