The COVID-19 pandemic has placed an extraordinary burden on frontline staff who must balance the physical and emotional demands of caring for patients. This also places an importance on the efficiency and availability of critical equipment and supplies in healthcare systems to support caregivers and prevent burn out.

An often-overlooked source of nursing frustration and care delays involves mobile medical equipment, which comprises about 90 percent of hospitals’ clinical assets. Dave Klumpe, TRIMEDX president of clinical asset management, recently spoke with Becker’s Hospital Review on the problems of suboptimal equipment management, such as unnecessary costs, cleanliness of equipment, negative patient experience and decreased clinician engagement. He also discussed how hospitals are re-imagining their processes to address both current and future challenges in mobile medical equipment management.
